I would guess, we've, already spent over 3 million in tax money on the Freshwater thing.  Who ever will end the mess, gets my vote.

It my understanding, that the school board spent, in excess of 200,000 dollars before school start.  Bring in lawyers, to tell the teachers what they can and can not teach or what they can or can not say.  Does anyone know any more about that?

You can bet your sweet ass I wont be voting for ANYONE who hires this asshole back into the Mt. Vernon School system.  HE is the one who has cost the taxpayers by dragging this shit out.  HE is the one who disobeyed a direct order from his superior to put his shit away.  HE is the one who burned a kid.  HE is the one who went against the school curriculum to teach what HE wanted to teach.  HE is the one who was fired for just cause and needs to move on and to stop being so selfish by putting himself first over the kids. :soapbox:

I guess I am only one that thinks there will never be another school bond passed, in Mt Vernon.  What I want is someones, to at least put bandages on the bleeding, before the patient is dead.

Steve Thompson isn't the one who can put the bandage on, in my opinion.  He has long been a Freshwater supporter.  :(

I thought we were talking about school board elections not bonds passing! I guess most people don't agree with you as the last bond DID pass.

Anyone who supports a candidate who wants to rehire Freshwater is supporting another $3M deficit (although I think that # is bogus propanda by Thompson) for the school district.  If you want the bleeding to stop, the district cannot rehire Freshwater or hire anyone with his agenda.

The law is clear.  You cannot promote a particular religion in the public schools.  The precedents in the law are set and any teacher promoting their religion to their students will cost the school district money.  The Mt. Vernon City Schools were very fortunate that the ACLU was not brought into this legal argument (thanks to the Dennis's) but I would venture to guess that the next victim of Freshwater (or someone like him) wouldn't be so kind and that's when this district will really have to fork out the money!  Our district already now has a target on their back.

Teachers have to be trained because its apparent that our local teachers are unaware or unclear about the law and their responsibility under the law to prevent the promotion of any particular religion in our local schools.

Mr. Thompson's son is a teacher in our district.  I listened to his son's testimony in the hearing and as far as I'm concerned he's a Freshwater clone.  Mr. Thompson's daughter is Mr. Freshwater's daughter's best friend.  They stood outside my neighbor's home together on Trick or Treat Night on High Street handing out bibles to the trick or treater's.  I believe that Mr. Thompson's agenda is to get Mr. Freshwater rehired.

The next time the promotion of one religion happens in our school, our school and community will be on a bigger national stage.  Are you people aware that the Dennis's turned down many opportunities to discuss this on a national level because that's not what they wanted for our school or community??????  I can assure you that the next victim will NOT be so kind!

And for clarity, the person who put this on the national stage this time was Freshwater!  He is the one who appeared on TV with his attorney and had his friend, Dave Daubenmeir, go to Geraldo Riviera.

I need to find out more about the Kirk candidate as well.  His signs are everywhere that Mr. Thompson's signs are so I believe they are running "in tandum".

If our community is not careful, we will become another Dover, Pennsylvania.  It will be a costly consequence to our schools.

  Wish we were as vigilant toward 'other' religions taking over the country.

I don't believe we can have a serious discussion regarding separation of church and state (including public schools), until we hold Washington accountable for allowing the Muslims  day of prayer on taxpayer funded property.

It's not equal and it should be stopped.   Where the heck is ACLU on this topic?

As a Christian, I do not feel discriminated against at all.   When my kids were in public school, I watched Christmas programs that included traditional Christian songs and I watched people get mightly upset when the Christmas program did not include any traditional Christian songs but rather had songs that were more from the Santa version of Christmas or had an "Around The World" type theme.

There are numerous denominations of Christianity.  The list is extensive.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Christian_denominations

As a Christian there are things taught in other denominations that I don't agree with and I have the right not to have that taught to my children.  There is no simple way to teach Christianity because of the range of beliefs within it.  Of course there is one common link amongst the denominations which is Jesus Christ but I can assure you that after that there can be some extreme views from one denomination to another.

I want my children (when they are young) to be taught the Christian beliefs that I hold and that is done at the Church or Churches of my choosing......not in a Science class or any other class at school.  I also want my children to learn tolerance of different beliefs which is not taught in all denominations of Christianity.  I don't agree with New Age Christians who believe that Jesus walked with dinosaurs and I don't want that taught to my children.

This is NOT about other religions from my perspective but about anyone teaching students any set of religious beliefs.  Separation of church and state protects my right as a Christian to teach my children the Christian beliefs/values I want them to be taught without interference by a teacher or public employee who has differing views.  I don't want my children's science teacher (or any other teacher for that matter) teaching religion and I don't want my minister teaching science (or any other school subject for that matter).

This is about my right as a Christian to protect my children against the beliefs of extreme Christianity or fundamentalists as well as protecting students with different religious beliefs being told what they believe will send them to  H E double toothpicks when they are trying to receive an education.  I also don't want children going to school and hearing statements from teachers like, "Catholics aren't Christians", "there's the Jew" and more judgmental statements that I can't post.  And, yes, these statements occurred in the MTV High School and don't belong in a public school environment.

While I am still for school prayer and am not keen on restricting any form of religious display. You have put it better than I have ever heard this argument before. Very nice!

I love reading your posts and opinions.   I am just expressing concern with regards, if as a Christian, we are told where, when and how, then why isn't it an outrage when other, I might add, extremists religions can openly pray on our Capital and no one is outraged?     If 'they' are so concerned about being our friends and want to open dialog with reference to 'why can't we all get along', then why weren't they very VOCAL about Christianity Prayer Day canceled.  Wouldn't that have spoken volumes on how they want this so called unity?  They were silent.  ACLU was silent.

To me, this Washington incident makes the law of separation of church and state, void/null.  It cannot be allowed for one and not the other.  Obama closed that door, imho.

Having said that,  I do agree with the majority of what you said.   I would wish the child rearing and indoctrination would/could be left to parenting.

Making trial by association with regard to Kirk, Thompson and Freshwater, my gosh,  the hoopla this has already generated, then the national political associations to Obama is an atom bomb by comparison.

Thanks for your outlook Seabiscuit.

If Freshwater supporters can manage to elect a majority of the school board, more power to them....and if they rehire Freshwater, they just hired a many time teacher of the year with loads of experience....
