I too read her website this morning, and filed out the forum to get me a yard sign.  We need change and need it quick.  The current school board will not get a single vote from me.

School board candidates to appear at open forum

MOUNT VERNON – A forum featuring candidates for the Mount Vernon City School Board will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8 at the Knox County Educational Service Center on Martinsburg Road.

Dubbed “Mount Vernon Schools Going Forward” the event is being organized by the Knox County Democratic Women as a community service to the general public. Candidates Paula Barone, Steve Hughes, Robert Kirk and Ian Watson will discuss their qualifications and respond to predetermined questions from moderator Dr. Peggy Dunn.

Candidate Steve Thompson was unavailable due to a previous engagement.

Questions will fall into the broad categories of curriculum and finance. Questions about legal matters now before the board will not be addressed.

Great that they're having this but as a voter, I want to know in advance what candidates think about curriculum which includes religious beliefs and whether or not they would vote to rehire Freshwater if the opportunity arose.

As a tax payer, I deserve an answer to that question so I'm not voting someone in who will continue to cost this district $ and cause our district to be vulnerable to further lawsuits.

Thing is we are spending soooo much money fighting to keep freshwater gone.  The same ppl not wanting him there (me included) are the same ppl we are spening too much money (me included).  I think the current school board needs to go   :hello:

Thing is now that he has made us a part of the national media people are watching. So if they hire him back, then the real expensive lawsuits could come.

Guess there is something more important for Thompson to do at that time. hmmm. More important indeed!

Maybe he's going to go with Obama to get the olympics for Chicago.  :hysterical: :hysterical:  Seriously though, he is one of the most honest people I have ever had the privilege of knowing. He's very fair, very dedicated. And I say that as having been a democrat. He is also very bright. He would actually be a plus for your schoool system.

I appreciate your thoughts about Mr. Thompson.  I do wonder, though, if he does have a hidden agenda to try to get Mr. Freshwater hired or others that might think similarly.  Do you have any idea about him regarding that?

I have to say I don't know anything about that. I can only say that I've known him for over 30 years, and he is honest as the day is long and very easy to talk to. He's the type of person that before he makes a decision, he'll look at all sides as he couldn't stand himself if he wasn't fair. That's just his make-up. Other than that, I don't know about any agenda. I sort of doubt it because I know that he has always been for the kids, anything to do with kids, even when I knew him a long time ago. He is also a very pragmatic and thoughtful person who just happens to be quite intelligent. His wife is a sweetheart too. But I guess she isn't running, huh?

Thanks for your thoughts, Armymom.  I do believe that he would be a very nice person.  I'm just trying to understand him better so that I can make an educated vote.

You are more than welcome. Like I said, I don't know much about the Freshwater situation, but I do know Steve and he is probably one of the fairest persons I have ever known. I would vote for him if I lived there and I wouldn't care if he had a D or an R beside his name. That's just how much I believe in him.

I was being completely serious. What is more important that he must do at 7pm at night? I think it shows disrespect and maybe that he is trying to avoid direct questioning!

Um... he does have a job, a big job, and who knows, it could be medical, it could be personal. I'm sure, knowing him, that it is something that he couldn't get away from and had previous plans. He's not the "sneaky" or the "avoidance" kind. Trust me, he doesn't run away from problems, he tackles them head on.
