dhw, I know what you meant, sorry for being a wize azz, I arrived in country October '66 departed September '69. November '66 transferred from Danang to Dong Ha. Dong Ha, Cua Viet, Quang Tri & Hue were included in my area of operaion. April '69 returned to Danang. Requested an extension of 1 year, denied and was transferred to Exmouth, West Australia in September '69. September '70 requested assignment to MACV (Military Advisory Group, VN) which was approved. I attended an intensive training course at Coronado, California & Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas. Training included Sere, 1 year of VN language School & Naval Staff Advisoy School.

I had a very long & rewarding career, honored to be a member of an elite group of individuals known as "Navy Mustangs."

I am old, grouchy & intolerant of anyone who abuses their authority. Murtha & Kerry are prime examples. Politicians & other senior government officials, civilian or military,  guilty of abuses should be euthanized in my opinion. 

I also have issues with well intentioned folks who have tag lines or otherwise feel it it necessary to "thank a vet" which I find  to be Inconsiderate & insensitive.  I did not serve to seek or recieve approval from anyone, my opinion based on many experiences.

Quite an experience, I can't count so I didn't report to the correct interrogation room!!  That earned me a beating!!    I survived water boarding & was assigned to the encampment for those who didn't co-operate  I can say without reservation, I will never forget the experience...  "IE" inhumane? as in waterboarding? I'm not sure. Unpleasant & frightening at the very least but should be the governments #1 interrogation technique.

I laughed when I saw a demonstration of waterboarding on FOX News, didn't show the real deal did they? They left out the wet "T" shirt covering the mouth & nose, makes it difficult to suck air in but the water gets in, breathing in more water than air is frightening

1.  Torture does not work...water boarding does, thus water boarding is NOT torture
2.  The Geneva conevntions makes it ILLEGAL to try a POW in Civilian court...so we are either applying the Conventions of Geneva to terrorists or we are not...if we are, and if that is the reason to close Gitmo, then moving the captives to civial jails and trying them in civilian courts is a direct violation and obama will indeed be brought up on war crimes.

Knowing that I taught in the SERE programs for 11 years, do you trust I know of what I speak?

Yes, the administration is wron headed on this issue, enemy combatants should be locked up in gtmo & be subjected to military tribunals, it's a no brainer
