Murtha moved back to Johnstown and remained with the Marine Reserves until he volunteered to go to Vietnam. He served as an intelligence officer there from 1966 to 1967 and received a Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts.

Where did he serve..and why the honors??? one year??

Some would suggest these awards are handed out like candy

am so glad the "day" of the fringe right is over............not only kickin' people when they're down, but after they die and their bodies are still warm..........veterans, to boot - not only veterans, but veterans who have fought harder for the rights of other vets than anyone else on capitol hill

unbelievable........

may the shrill ultra conservative rhetoric continue............

Timothy McVey was a veteran too...remember ?....so was Nathan Hale.......Murtha voted for the Iraq war, then opposed it when he needed to cozy up to the looney lefties in pursuit of the position of Majority Leader of the House in 2006.....tell it like it is...Murtha was an opportunist without principle and the King Of Pork....

candy, no they gave them out as political plums to boobs like murtha and kerry....

the bronze star was  awarded out for many 'non-combat acts', it even became known as the "officers' good conduct medal...and that conduct in murtha's case, was stealing honor.

murtha funneled millions during war time from the defense budget into the hands of his family....during other wars this was labeled 'graft', 'war profiteering', and in the civil war,  Lincoln  denounced  them  "worse than traitors."

now liberal democrats  extol this graft as "patriotic."

nasty.

here, from a totally liberal network is how to make a farce of the purple heart medal:

according to Navy regulations, a worthy wound is merely "an injury to any part of the body from an outside force or agent, sustained while in action. … A physical lesion is not required, provided the concussion or other form of injury received was a result of the action in which engaged." The other services' regulations include similar language, stipulating, as the Army's does, that "the wound for which the award is made must have required treatment by a medical officer and records of medical treatment for wounds or injuries received in action must have been made a matter of official record."

In other words, a band-Aid boo-boo is fair game, so long as enemy action is somewhere obvious in the causal chain.

Band aid boo-boo...... :hysterical:     Good one.

Isn't it amazing how we put killers on a pedestal and liars, crooks & cheats as models for our younger generations to aspire to?

They will probably want to have military honor guard for him.  I just can't see what is honorable about a man who swore to serve our country, questioningly did it, comes home and exploits his so called 'hero status', for his own personal gains and then we're suppose to respect him?

here is another salient point in liberal philosophy..
while john murtha and and diane feinstein's husband made millions on war profiteering,
they are applauded for leading the "we hate money grubbing halliburton and cheney" chant....

yeah, liberals making millions on the wars in iraq and afghanistan are the ones held up as heroes by the left
and trusted to turn off money for the war effort starting when the liberals took over congress in 2006, and still waiting through 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010....

Elected to Congress in 1974 from a southwestern Pennsylvania district that has been economically devastated by the decline of the nation's coal-mining and steel industries, the gruff and jowly Murtha was beloved by his constituents for tapping billions of dollars in federal money to seed new industries there.

He was revered among Democrats -- and even some Republicans -- for his skill in using the power of the federal purse to make kings and deals. A right-hand man of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), he was considered one of the most influential lawmakers on Capitol Hill and credited with her ascension.

You do not have a clue!  Not a clue!  Clown never picked up a weapon to defend himself.

I would guess you voted for Kerry, he should have been executed for his activities and yes, he was also the recipient of that "CANDY", lots of it.

Murtha, Kennedy & Kerry are perfect examples of what's seriously wrong with this country. Dead is good in many cases, may they never rest in peace!!

continue on, Murtha bashers - although none of you can mirror his actions on behalf of this country in any way, shape or form

Really? Once again, you do "NOT" have a clue!

"although none of you can mirror his actions on behalf of this country in any way, shape or form"

Why do you make comments like that when you have no idea who "None of you" are, where they have been & the extent of their service to this country!!  Clueless!! Careless!! & just plain stuck in your own small world.

Ever consider the attitudes relected in these posts may be based on how he really conducted himself? Of course not!!  :banghead:

Ever consider an honest person would never have any desire to "mirror his actions"? Of course not!!  :banghead:
