Jason posts Date AND Time. I like that, give us an idea about lighting conditions, so I am going to add that as a rule for next months competition.

Don't know if time needs to be a rule, just seems to be something usually offered up and included in the descriptions in other contests.  I haven't gotten to the point of GPS marking photos yet, still can't see enough reason for that.

Still waiting and hoping to see a few more people toss some photos out here and get this rolling more.  With the fury of posts there for a little while I was surpirsed to be the first posting images in the contest.  Why don't we try to get this over to the front page as maybe an annoucement?  Just trying to drum up a little more business.

I agree with Jason about date/time being a rule.  Maybe it could be a suggestion.  Heck, I have enought trouble with f-stop & shutter speed.  And ya, my camera saves that info but I delete my images as soon as I upload them and forget to record that info before I do.

Maybe we could try to keep the rules to a minimum?  I like the rules just as they are at the moment.  IMHO, having a lot of rules starts to stifle interest and creativity.

OK, I game with that, I will make it a suggested guideline, not a rule.

Well, there are primarily 3 things I do...

1.  I ask people (friends/co-workers) where they like to go that's beautiful
2.  I take different routes home from work and stop to shoot things I see that are interesting
3.  I look up attractions/events online and find ones that interest me

That's really about it.  I have a mental list of places I want to go and see - here are just a few:

Bike path
Put-In-Bay
This road on the other side of Danville that I accidentally turned onto once that looked promising
Brinkhaven - there's a stone tunnel over a road there I want to check out
Amish farms when they're plowing/planting
This place that raises Longhorn Cattle that's on my way home from work
A barn where RT62 meets the road to Gambier
Wolf Run
Kenyon
The Naz
This church on the road that goes out by the water park
The Columbus Zoo
A shed around the corner from the water park on McGibney

I'm sure there are more I'm not thinking of right now...

Hope that helps you out some.

Jak,

If you are on a busy road and see "that shot", what do you do, just pull off to the side of the road? Any tips?
Do the amish mind taking pictures of them working, do you ask first? If houses are off limits without permission, are their barns and other stuff?

My experience with the True Amish is this,, they do not like their pictures taken. (Older Amish)  But , I have taken pictures where Amish/Mennonite are in the picture.  I know this Question is for Jak,  just have experience with this. I have a lot of friends who are of this culture. ;)

Have photographed them several times, but only with their permission.  Several scenes and events that we have had in our area we have them in photos, again I never assume.

As for getting "that shot" I do everything to get out of the way of traffic and pull to a safe place from the roadway, while I maybe able to jump into a ditch quickly, if you are struck chances are you will be at fault...or at least have a lot of explaining to do.  If I am chasing or storm watching I use pull-offs to get far enough off the roadway, I have been known to get permission to head down tractor paths, walk through creeks, rent equipment to go out on a lake or stream to get a better angle, just depends how bad i want the shot and what its for.

So what if you don't belong too or have a Yahoo ID?  I am getting confused just like Tweety was for a while.  Guess I'll just pass on this for now.  Thanks for info.   :banghead:

It's been awhile, but I think you must have a yahoo userid. But that is easy and free. Just go to yahoo, and sign up. Dont really ever have to use it again at yahoo. Then go to flickr and sign up using your yahoo userid.
