Is LeBron James going to be the next Art Modell?
« on: July 08, 2010, 02:22:18 PM »
I'm not an NBA fan and although I respect his talent, I am not a LeBron James fan.  From his outward display of home town disloyalty by donning the caps of the Dallas Cowboys and NY Yankees, to his lack of effort in this year's game 5, added to the long torturous process he has put his fans through, I have little to no respect for him as a person.

From my standpoint, I believe he will leave Cleveland for Miami.  I think this was the plan all along. I also believe he will pass Art Modell as the biggest villain ever in Cleveland sports history. Hopefully I'm wrong for Cleveland and all of their NBA fans, but unfortunately I think the Cleveland curse is still alive and well.
I'd rather slam my nose in a car door. I'd rather have a proctologist named Dr. Hook. I would rather watch Roseanne Barr do a striptease than give up my MVOhio.

If he goes to NY the taxes will kill him and that's not saying anything about their fans....  Oh well.

I was about to say the same thing,  Stop Already . I`m not a basketball fan to begin with, but when I watch ESPN to see baseball highlights or football news. I don`t want to hear about the same thing all day for 2 weeks  :angryfire:

I agree, I'll be glad when it's over.  Bring on football season.

No doubt...Cleveland has always been "Browns Town."

Cleveland takes another hit.  Feel badly and disappointed
       for the fans.

But, it happens.   Many of our good Ohio football players
have chosen not_Muchigan.   So be it.

The local shelters are asking that new or slightly
used James jerseys not be burned but rather be
dropped off at the shelters for others to wear.

Don't burn or throw away your lebron clothing---donate the clothing and other paraphernalia to a homeless shelter or a charity of your choice.  Make something good come from his decision.....    :wavy:

I'm not a big NBA fan either.

I try to look at this from the perspective of a 25 yr old, which is how old LeBron is.  Sure I'm disappointed that he won't be playing in Cleveland but I just can't see getting all angry with him over it.

I mean, really, isn't it okay if he's just ready to move out of Cleveland?  I know that it was good for me to leave Ohio in my twenties and live somewhere else.  It gave me perspective.

And Art Modell snuck out in the middle of the night.  LeBron openly was being courted by other teams and then stated his position on National TV.

Is this LeBron's life or does his life belong to his fans?  Some may think this is about money but I think its more about his right to make independent choices of what others think.  He's going to make "tons of money" regardless of where he goes or what he does.  Like Michael Jordan, the majority of his money is from endorsements.

He has done considerable charitable work for his community:

My question to all those fans who would rather throw him under the bus than allow him the right to make his own decisions, "how would that have gone over with you at 25?"

LeBron did the best he could while he was at Cleveland but Cleveland didn't build a team around him and it's not a one man game.  As competitive as he is, he wants to win a championship.  Who would deny him that right?  I don't know, I guess I'm shocked at the outrage.  I think it's ridiculous.  The man gives to his community.  Maybe he should just pull the money he gives and take that to a community who is appreciative of that as well.

I hope Cleveland fans see this perspective.....

If I were a young talented basketball player hoping to find a team to play on and I saw how the Cleveland fans were treating LeBron right now, I'd probably "nix" Cleveland, especially since the owner threw a player under the bus as well.

Folks, it's a basketball player who is a young man.  What are you expecting?  The wisdom of a 90 yr old or the enthusiasm of a young person just wanting to do all the things they are capable of doing.

Oh, and one last thing.......

Cleveland should be grateful that he wanted to start his career there.  He has had opportunities to leave in the past few years and didn't.

I'm probably being preachy here but c'mon, give the guy a break.  After all, it's his life, not anyone elses.

Quite frankly, I don't know why anyone would spend anytime talking about Lebron anyways. Don't we have more important issues in this state without having to follow an overrated, narcissist 25 year old? Yep it's his life Seabiscuit and hopefully he'll do something with it other than "search" for titles. I don't think he'll get it down there, too many "temperments" to contend with and what is he going to do if his "buddies" have a bad day at the hoops? Give up like he did in the series? I say good bye, yea it's his life and his business, he had choices to make and it's up to him to live with them and the opinions that come with them. He gets paid the big bucks, he should have big enough shoulders that he doesn't need cheerleaders.
