Unemployment Benefits
« on: July 08, 2010, 05:52:05 PM »
Does anyone know the answer to this?  If someone has exhausted their unemployment benefits, how long do they have to be employed until they are once again eligible for benefits.  Thanks
I'd rather slam my nose in a car door. I'd rather have a proctologist named Dr. Hook. I would rather watch Roseanne Barr do a striptease than give up my MVOhio.

6 months , I think. most of it depends on how much time you have in certain quarters. been about 10 years since I have drawn it (first time ever)

Thanks Gary, yea, it seems things change from year to year. I had heard it was now 18 months, but how I'm uncertain how true this was.  Anyone else have any idea?

It is 12 weeks I believe or a certain dollar amount. We have a couple of part-time people at work who were laid off from their full time job and we are always filling out paperwork for them. I want to say you have to have maintained a certain number of hours and reached a certain wage base to requalify :)

This person has used up all the extensions available.

He should have saved his money, those hair extensions aint cheap!

I did read a book on this subject and took several courses in school...the end result was GET A JOB...and if that fails, then...since this America...START A BUSINESS.

Hopefully, anyone reading this who is sitting around collecting unemployment checks will see that it does indeed end...don't waste a single day, study, prepare, get physically fit, and build a marketable skill that can generate revenue in a decaying society...

I believe all the extension monies are now gone bc everyone I knew who had extensions for unemployment have stopped receiving benefits and their wasn't really any notice.

That's sort of how this topic got started.  I was talking with a couple of others concerning unemployment benefits, extensions, etc. The one question no one knew the answer to, was how soon would someone regain benefits if they had exhausted all past benefits.  Not sure why, but I had 18 months in my mind.

I always thought it had to be 20 weeks to be able to draw unemployment, but I've never drawn it so I really don't know, just what I thought I heard.

I know all the paper work I have to fill out ask if the person has been employed for more than 12 weeks and if they have made over a certain dollar amount. I have never been on unemployment either so I don't know all the ends and out and the Mr was only on it for about 2 months.

belushi,
unfournately I think some of these people thought the money was just going to keep getting extended and extended. When a girl I work with was upset her husbands stopped I asked her how long he had been on unemployment and she said 2.5 years.... I was like how long do you expect it to last? So once that quit she went up to her county JFS and signed up for every benefit possible. Now the hubby is working under the table and she is constantly calling off so they still within a certain income range to qualify for more benefits.... I know how nice right LOL!!!!  :text_yb_wtf:

Another sad aspect of the unemployment plan is, so many riding it out.  So many I have met don't even look until their benefits are nearly exhausted.
