my brother in law in Columbus lost his job July 2, 2008, the day his daughter was born.  (It was just a coincidence)  He filed for unemployment, it was granted and he stayed on unemployment till just a few weeks ago.  He was offered a job the day my MIL passed away, nearly 2 years later.  He was on unemployment the entire time he was off.

I had no idea a person can be allowed to get unemployment for that long!! My 81 year old grandma was just approved for metro (rent assistance) but was told the waiting list is so long it will be about 2 years before she actually can receive it!!! She has worked her entire life in restaurants (and hopes to go back to work in a few weeks after her broken arm heals) but we want her to cut back her hours. Anyone know if there is a time limit on receiving metro benefits or how does a person on the waiting list move up??

No time limit, once they are on it.  I don't know about the list and criteria for moving ahead of the 'line'.   I've seen it done, but never knew how they did it.

But they can be on it as long as the need is there.

It would appear the first thing that needs to be done is for the state to steal the money from someone who has it...to then give it away to someone else.

Last I looked, the list of people who have money is shrinking...

I believe the only way to move up in line is to be homeless but I am not sure if that is true.

They have to give "hope" so they add you to the list...they are broke...the only way to move up is for current recipients of welfare to fall off the roll....that isn't happening.

It is going to get much, much worse.  Take a close look at France and that is where we will be in 6-7 years...don't waste a penny folks...save like your lives depend on it...cause they do...

It is crazy how many young people (early 20's) we have had ask if we accept metro for our rental house. If an 81 year old is able to work a 40 hour work week on her feet all night why the hell are these kids not working?

Because the 81 year old took their job

Something like 56% of college graduates do not have a job...it is getting worse each year...and will continue to get worse

With the HUGE tax increases coming, you will see another big round of layoffs

Homeless doesnt change anything...just means someone is homeless.......there is fixed funds set aside for metro..so when one leaves the program another can join it......but I do know there are ways to jump ahead...a widow of a veteran is one.

Metro is one system I have never really dealt with so I don't know the ends and outs. I just thought maybe if you were homeless with children it may bump you up.

raryje,
it is quite sad how many kids from my generation believe everything should be handed to them and unfournately it is a way of life for many people. Why get a job and work when we can get free rent and a check every month. The mentality is something that completely confuses me but I was in shock when I was first introduced to it. Its quite sad if you ask me

Not as long as Obama is president.  They will find a way to take from those who work and have it and give to those who don't or wont work
