The 13 yr old All Star team won the State Championship game last night 8 - 2 beating Moundbuilders.   Moundbuilders really pulled it together after getting walloped by the MTV team.  It says a lot for the players and coaches that they won in the loser's bracket after that defeat.

They played tough against MTV in the final game as the score was 4 - 2 at the end of 4 innings.  Their best pitcher was hit with a pitch in his 1st at bat and didn't return to the game.  I haven't been able to find out for sure but accord'g to my son, he went to the hospital and may have broken his arm.  I'll confirm this when I get a chance.

MTV played extremely well as a team and everyone contributed to last night's success.  Needless to say, it was a lot of fun!  Springfield put on a well ran tournament, Wittenburg field was fantastic and the kids had a ball.  It was a great experience for them.

Now it's on to Logansport, Indiana for the Regional Tournament which begins on Friday, July 30th.  Mt. Vernon (will now be the Ohio team) gets a by on the first day of tournaments and plays Saturday at 10:00 am.

Here's a little fun video from the tournament.  After the presentation of the awards, the announcer asked the Moundbuilder's to dance again and the Mt. Vernon team joined in.  My husband took this short little video on his camera.  I think it's very funny!

What it shows is something the parents and fans forget...these are still just kids. Out there to have fun. Last week when the rain delayed the tournament here in Mt Vernon. Both teams waiting to play ball got together and played on the playground equipment, hit wiffle balls and generally had a good time together before they became competitors on the ball field. Parents watched in amazement, and remarked, guess we forget they are still kids.

Look around the next time you visit. There are blacks in MV. There are blacks on ball teams also. Just happens not on this team.  ;)  Personally, I don't believe the 'N' word is appropriate at any time or place.

This makes me smile, too.  Competitors can be good
friends.  The kids have something really good here
to remind everyone of how it could be and, many times,
    is.
