ahhh love it when an asshole realizes he is being just that...an ass!!

Hey AB..have ya shot any pics lately you have not shared...please do if you have any?

SDB....ya got to shoot shoot shoot with a camera just like a gun...to figure what works and what does not.

Jak....I think back all the film I use to shoot and as you...few were good enough for me...now digital is such a blessing...and so much easier on the pocketbook....just spending good dollars for a high quality camera is the big expense..but then all is good after...and even some of the cheaper cameras are surprising what they will give back in pics.

Acknowledging the lines needing removed, what else could I have done?

My original was 2.6 MB and I had to reduce this to the limit of 200KB.

SDB,

I'm sure your going to need to supply a larger version.
You really should be able to reduce it to 800X600 or better with a medium quality to get under 200k.
What software did you use and what steps?

Note my procedure here:

http://www.mvohio.net/index.php?topic=18734.60

This produced a fairly large picture under 200k (click on the image to see how large), or do you have a flickr account or something similar?

Thanks mtvguy.  I forgot to try picasa (I have Picasa 3)   taking it to 800 made the file 220kb so I took it smaller.  I might add, it would only allow me to go the 640 from 800.  I couldn't take it to 775 or anywhere in between.

Actually, the phone lines can probably stay in this one since the horses are the focal point of the image. Hard to tell from the low res you uploaded but I suspect that when you were shooting this, IF you had focused on the horses, held the focus and moved the camera to bring them down closer to the center of the frame, and then clicked you would have a composition more pleasing to the eye. My guess is that you would have picked up the top of the trees, centered the focal subject, and reduced the foreground to a more balanced perspective.

Get me something better to "play with" and I'll take a look at what else I might do.

The original intent of the 200kb limit was to preserve disk space. However, disk space is no longer an issue for mvohio, so I've raised the limit to 5 MB (5120 kb) and we can go as high as is necessary, if anyone needs more.

Hopefully this will make it a little easier to upload higher-resolution photographs.

Is this the original, or did you crop down to zoom in on this part of the picture?  I'm guessing you weren't over the shoulder of the catcher and umpire, but I don't know.

My questions...
1.  Who were you focusing on?  The batter, the ball, the catcher, or the pitcher?

My suggestions...

1.  The angle that its taken from.  If its the pitcher, place the batter in the left or right side of the frame depending on L or R batter and then focus on the pitcher.  If its the batter, change the angle alltogether because it just doesn't seem to grab me thats who you were wanting to capture.

2.  Get down!  For one, if you are on the inside of the fence and the ball pops off the bat at you, there is little time to react.  If you are lower, chances are if they get ahold of it, the ball will come off the bat and go up, not down.  If it goes down, it will hit the dirt and isn't going to break you or your camera.  Second reason to get down, like with shooting pics of kids, get down to their level.  Getting down low in sports you will shoot up into the helmets and hats.  It looks more natural.

How do I improve on this one. I haven't been photographing very long.
