Just for kicks and in my spare time, I have started a Knox County History Site.
Its very simple, I'm just getting started, the data in the time line was quickly typed in and a lot of it may be in error.
But, I thought I'd share it, get some feed back, maybe some ideas, maybe a few old photos.
In the time line, you can click on an item and get more detail.
If there is a picture in the detail, the pop up may not display correctly the first time.
Close the pop up and click on the time line item again.
I am trying to fix this problem, but not quite sure the error.
There is no map page yet.
And for those of you with dial up modems, this may be A LOT SLOW, sorry.
OOps, forgot to post link!!
knoxtime.dyndns-at-home.com
The Small menu is in the upper right, ands the time line does slide left and right.

Soooo cool to see all the pictures! As a transplant to this community, it is hard to imagine how busy downtown was at one time.
Thank you for sharing!

Thanks everybody, its a project I have wanted to due for some time and really enjoying.
Phred, I will get back to you, forgot where this sketch came from, but I will find out.
I just posted 3 items in the map section, 2 of which I have posted in the past on mvohio, the other is new, it is the Knox County 1896 Atlas. First digital copy I know of. It is in PDF format and quite large, 33mb.
I'm running this website off of my home pc and Roadrunner upload speed for home networks is low.
So, it may 5-10 minutes or more to download, but a copy can be saved to your local hard drive.
The other 2 maps should only take a minute or so to download. Remember, once they are downloaded to the browser, they can be enlarged by moving the mouse over the image and clicked.
I have very high res versions of all 3 items. If anyone needs something like that, I can accommodate.

Yes, I have added several "Google Books" which are readable online
PLUS the books are
searchable
, a very very cool feature.

Phred,
If you go to my history web site, click on online books,
The first book, 1803 history of Knox County, click on it.
When you get to google books, its just after page 348, it was the center fold for that book.
You can go to page 348 directly by entering it into the little blank box just above the book view.
mtvguy
And if you dont have a wide enough screen, you can see more of the image there.
And, since the statue was put up in 1877 and that book was published in 1881, that pretty much dates the sketch.
