mtvguy found some hollowed ground, the location of Mount Vernon's first liquor establishment.

" First Tavern

The first Tavern, in 1805, was owned and operator by Benjamin Butler at the corner of Gambier and Main on the north/west corner.

Reference(s) 1881 p348

1805-10-01"

I appreciate the kind words, this is a fun, albeit a little slow, project.

Historically speaking, we are coming into the coldest part of the year, with Jan 19, 1994 the record coldest day.
I remember that day, my soft cushy car seats didn't cushy much that morning, but my car did start, a lot didn't that morning.
Check out this months temperatures at KnoxTime.

I was living in a trailer at the time, I left the kitchen facet running. In the morning there was an ice sickle hanging from the facet. Pipes of course had to be fixed.

Gee I had missed this thread...wonderful walk in time..

Jan 1994....I was living west of Fredericktown..we had 40 below....three vehicles in the drive way would not start....AAA said 3 days to get to us.they were only working emergencies in the roads...the guys at home decided to see if the 4th car that had a broken clutch cable would start...a 1976 Skyhawk....well it did...so they pushed that one to the other cars/truck to jump start them.

That was also a winter of much ice....I was going to physical therapy every day because of a close to fatal auto accident..and oh I do remember how bad the roads were...and thankful my other half could drive it...it was taking us twice as long to drive to the hospital because the roads were so bad.

I never wanted to see another winter like that...well this winter has been far too close to that one for me...

If I quite remember it wasn't just that day, it was a whole week. In fact the following week I met for the first time one of my closest and dearest friends. I was recovering from surgery and we met in the hallway of the school, while we were waiting for our children who were in kindergarten. They had just moved in to MTV during that week from New York. The wind chills were like 20-35 below zero. And I had said to her "You couldn't of picked one of the worst weeks ever to move here!"
