Thirty years ago, I sat in a meeting with a group of "senior citizens" and the discussion was about teaching Communism in school.  The all strongly apposed the idea because why would anyone want to teach communism, it was like teaching evil.  The felt we should only teach Capitalism.  They had no clue what Communism was.   I tried then to explain that to teach Communism in school along with Socialism and Capitalism, it would educate people about all forms of government and social life, then they would understand more clearly.  By removing all religion from schools we are allowing ignorance to prevail.  Then our children can be lead around like animals instead of leading us to a better world.

I am not talking about the motives of the teacher, I am talking about the ignorance of the kid.

This scenario reminds me of another regime that banned books.

Circa 1940's - Germany, I think   :(

ohhhhhhh, so since the kid OBVIOUSLY has no idea what the Bible is about (or so you have surmised), it's up to his Science Teacher to show him the way?  Or at the very least, give him the option to learn FROM A MIDDLE SCHOOL SCIENCE TEACHER....IN A MIDDLE SCHOOL SCIENCE CLASS....Who and what the Bible is alllllll about?

I personally could give a hoot less if the guys keeps a Pee Wee Herman bobble head on his desk.....

I agree with Blanches post though.

Although, I think he can send a kid to a nurse to get in touch with planned parenthood and get a fistful of free condoms if I'm not mistaken....

go figure.........

Personally, I don't have a problem with Mr. Freshwater having a bible on his desk.  My problem is his "refusal" to put it away when school administration asked him.  I believe teachers are under contract to the school system, and Mr. Freshwater agreed to abide by the rules and regulations of that school system.  The bible even backs up the fact that he should submit to his employer's authority:

Romans 13:1
"Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God."

Mr. Freshwater voluntarily placed himself under the authority of the school district and he needs to fulfill his obligation to them.

Before agreeing or disagreeing with you, I'd like to view the rule or regulation Freshwater violated.

Cover on a bible, hmm I've owned a couple different versions in my 29 years on this planet and never have tried putting a cover on one, hmm.  Checked an older family bible we have, nope no cover there either.

Better start hiding other historical items and artifacts that do or could have religious significance.

Kinda interesting the timing of this new scandal to cover the Board paying a employee for doing nothing.

Did I miss something here, was this teacher forcing this kid to come into his desk and discuss the bible?

Speaking of the school systems, there's a 'rumor' that there's going to be a rally on the square later today in favor of a teacher.  Seems he had a bible on his desk, one student saw it and went home and complained, and the school is giving him grief about it.

Hope it happens.  NO ONE should be able to tell a teacher NOT to have a Bible in his office.   :angryfire:

NO - the kid saw the bible and went home to his parents.  The kid OBVIOSLY does not care what the bible is about or what it means to other people, he just wanted to start some S**T.

Just catching up. have to agree..   he should be allowed to have the Bible on his desk, from what I have read he's not "preaching" his religion to anyone, am I correct??

I do not have covers on any of my bibles either.   The point is, this certainly was not the first time this kid was at this teacher's desk, but apparently the first time he saw the bible.  Had he not seen the bible laying on the desk we would not be discussing this issue.

Some people read the bible, some people believe the bible, some of those  people are teachers.

If we truly want separation of church and state, all government employees, including teachers should be atheist,   Would that satisfy this kid or his parents?

Nah - I won't forget - already sent a formal public records request to Watson - am already studying the recall rules in the Ohio Revised Code - and discussing this with the Board of Elections - am just warming up on this one   ;)

Nothing tears people apart like religion.  Look at the holy war going on today.  Islam vs everyone else.  Keep religion private.  It does not belong on the desk of a public employee.

I know I'm going to get slammed for this one, but here goes.  Those that believe in God and believe God, knows what is really happening.  That Satan, the ruler on earth is trying to accomplish exactly what the Bible said he was going to do.  He seeks to hurt, destroy and kill all and any reference to God.  Thereby, he thinks that he is putting an end to the end time prophecies that he will be destroyed and God wins.

Those that don't believe, this is foolishness to them.  They will never understand it, they won't/don't accept it.  For a believer, what is occurring now is also prophesied.  It has to happen exactly the way it is happening.  Believers wished that it wasn't, but it will happen and there is nothing we as humans can do about it.  We will stave it off as long as we can, but we will not prevail, God will.

Blanche is correct, as believers of God, we must submit (adhere to their rules) to the higher authority (our government and those who employ us), everything is in place because God put it there.  No more no less.

OK, I'm done.  Be as kind as you can to me, I know this is pretty extreme to think about, but there are those on here that know what I'm talking about.  Believers and non-believers are fulfilling the prophecies of the Bible.  It's in there.

I believe that Jason911 is correct in his view about this creating a diversion from the ineptness of the school board.

Booya, believers don't believe that to be correct.  As a follower of Jesus, believers are to be ambassadors for Him.  That is not to say to shove it down some one's throat, but to be examples so that your life is a reflection of what it is to be a believer.  However, and it is sad to say, as a believer myself, we all fall short of this goal and it really dirties up the picture.  Being a believer, doesn't mean to be perfect, it just means that as a sinner, to be forgiven and you are relying on the death, burial and resurrection of Christ to save you.  That is Grace.  But to hide it, would be an admission that my faith isn't there.  I hope nothing I say here is construed to shove it down any one's throat, or a judgement, just an attempt to put myself out there for what I believe in.  AND hopefully not to be ridiculed for my beliefs.

Ma'am

I don't subscribe to your beliefs, as you know

HOWEVER, when people start dictating what others read....or what books one can have on their desk in a workplace, we have a BIG problem.

Unless there is a rule or regulation that states that one cannot have a Bible on one's desk at school, the school is waaaaaaaaay outta line on this one................ :angryfire:
