I think it odd that people get all up in arms and shit about the bible in a school, or a gun in a school, or aspirin in a school...yet they say nothing about the lack of education in a school....go figure

Dude, it's because a gun, an aspirin and a Bible can cause serious physical harm to another human being.

I have heard that students wishing to support Mr Freshwater's cause are asked to bring a Bible to school tomorrow and place in on their desks through out the school day. After school, the students can sign a petition located at 'spirit rock'. The petition will be turned into Mr.Short.

Good for them!

It has now been reported by Mr. Short that Mr. Freshwater had 8 or 9 bibles in his classroom.  He also had the 10 commandments hanging in the room, along with other quotes from scripture.  It seems that perhaps Mr. Freshwater didn't just have one bible on his desk, maybe to open and read to himself between classes or on breaks or just to show as a symbol of his faith.  With 8-9 copies in the classroom, it looks more like he was making the bibles available for his students to read.

He did take down the 10 commandments and the scripture quotes that were hanging in the classroom and I agree that should have been done.  If he wants to keep his own personal copy of the bible on his desk to read HIMSELF during free time, so be it.  But I don't see the need for 8-9 copies of the bible in his class, unless his motives are something other than just having a copy for himself to read or to just show a symbol of his Christian faith and belief.  One copy would be enough for that.  Maybe he DOES have ulterior motives?  I think the displays of the 10 commandments and scripture quotes kind of back that up also.

So what if he has 10 or 100 Bibles.  Do kids not have a right to request one to read during THEIR free time?
Or, maybe it was for the REQUIRED class on History of Religion taught by the Middle School Social Studies dept.

Another thought...Do those that are not of the Christian belief feel threatened by the Bible? Are they afraid for their children to experience and or explore and study other religions? Are they afraid their children just might embrace a belief that is not theres?

It really doesn't matter how many Bibles he has in his classroom, as long as he is not 'teaching', 'forcing', or 'suggesting' students to read them.

What tools does the History of Religion class use in its instruction?
It's better to have a few REAL friends than to have a thousand FAKE ones.

I hope my paster does not have a dictionary on her desk at church.  Someone might want to learn how to spell something and that belongs in the school.

I know they use handouts.  Not sure if they use anything else.  Will have to ask my daughter.

The bible is one of the oldest pieces of literature in existance today.  It should be read and understood by all students.  That is not pushing a "religion" that is studying the bible.

The Qur'an on the other hand is like a comic book.  It has as much place in the classroom as a copy of Hustler.
