i reckon whoever filed the complaint about the bible on the teacher's desk is weak.

once the complaint was filed, i think the school system had to take action and ask that it be removed. refusing to put the book inside the desk is very revealing to his motives.

a teacher should be trying to create an atmosphere with fewer distractions, not more.

thanks

I think his motives are just, there is a right for it to "be" there.  Although there is no right to teach from it, he has a right to have it there, carry it with him all day long, he has those rights.  He has the ability to enjoy those rights, much like we are able to enjoy the right of posting on this same forum, or the newspaper is able to print articles about the issue.

I think his motive is very clear, he is going to take a stand against the board for something that he believes in, and is a right.  I think it also shows the youth a good lesson, to not be a little lemming and simply follow and conform to what the board thinks is right.  I hope this, along with the Haschak issue will open plenty of closets in whats happening with the school system.

Has anyone gotten Al Haschak's opinion on Bibles in the classroom?

I think Aaron Tippin said it best in one of his songs.

"You've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything."  (or something to that effect).

Excuse me people...  :lovesmiley:

Just because he has had the Bible sitting on his desk for 20 years does not mean it has been correct.  All it means is that no administrator ever brought him to task and told him to put it away.  Remember, it is put it away...not remove it.

My question is...Why is it just now being brought to the attention of others?  Why was he told now to remove the 10 Commandments from his door?  I believe it is because we now have an administrator that is trying to follow the rules.  Everyone should be asking why it took so long.

Quote from Jasonb911..."If it was a Muslim teacher and the Koran we would have every Tom, Dick, and Abdul from the ACLU or their cohorts fighting for it to stay."

Sir, I am sorry.  I do not agree.  In fact, I believe every person in this town would have been screaming for its removal 20 years ago!

In answer to Plautus...Dr. Al is golfing, enjoying his paid vacation and cannot be reached for comment!   ;)

OH MAN........

Lil Forest took a Bible to school in support of Mr. Freshwater.  He asked if it was OK that he do this.  I said, "That is your decision".

            Yes, Freshwater can carry and display his Bible here;
he can carry and display his Bible there.
            No problem.

He _can_ have it with him in the classroom.
But that's not enough for him.

He must select where the children are. He
must have his way there too.

Once again, our schools and kids are getting used.

Phred, this is about Mr. Freshwater, not Dave Daubenmire.

So what if Daubenmire was at the square as a show of support for Mr. Freshwater.
I would bet that he was there because HE taught at MVHS for several years and was also chastised for his religious beliefs as well.
Also, what does bringing up Daubenmire's son have to do with Mr. Freshwater?  His son was a grown man responsible for his own actions when he was convicted.

SeaBreeze, additional information is always offered
         for the knowledge.

I really felt that there was _also_ positive info in those
those news articles about Daubenmire and Zachary.

And, yes, this is all about Freshwater, isn't it.

it's just awfully suspect that they raise this issue right now, when the community is already pissed over the school boards actions, i think they're trying to shift the heat elsewhere to cover their butts

Daubenmire was standing right there next to him.  I'd bet a dollar to a donut that Daubenmire was the first one to contact the media.  Daubenmire always has taken advantage of anything that makes it seem like Christians are being persecuted by Mount Vernon, when its not the case.

I don't really care WHO contacted the media, but I am glad they did.
Mr. Freshwater IS being persecuted for his religious beliefs.

I am not certain what religious belief this is.....

that he can do as he chooses with his Bible in
           the kids' environment?

           Where should this end up?

Teachers should be allowed to bring their
religious books to the children's school and
                  put them anywhere..... ?

                  on their desk.

                  on their chair.

                  on the floor.

Extending to all teachers, the choices may vary.

I suspect once the board accomplishes him putting the Bible in the desk, they will begin to work on him to wear a bag over his head, cause "everyone knows he is a Christian and we don't think our children should have to look at him".   Heaven Hell forbid him to conduct himself according to his beliefs and really be a good teacher (as the kids say he is).

Freshwater is a paid employee who, at least, is
           showing up for work !

Once this is over, the Board will want him to get
back to doing his job.  State tests are coming up,
and we want the students to do well on them.

I should think that Freshwater would feel the same.
