Lil Forest took a Bible to school in support of Mr. Freshwater.  He asked if it was OK that he do this.  I said, "That is your decision".

I really do commend you for allowing your son to make his on decision on this issue. It is hard sometimes as parents to do this. I remember a few years back when both my children were involved in the demonstration against the school, I was quite anxious, wanting to protect them, but also proud that they were making a stand on something in which they believed. This all a part of molding them into adults.  :hat:

Phred, this is about Mr. Freshwater, not Dave Daubenmire.

So what if Daubenmire was at the square as a show of support for Mr. Freshwater.
I would bet that he was there because HE taught at MVHS for several years and was also chastised for his religious beliefs as well.
Also, what does bringing up Daubenmire's son have to do with Mr. Freshwater?  His son was a grown man responsible for his own actions when he was convicted.

SeaBreeze, additional information is always offered
         for the knowledge.

I really felt that there was _also_ positive info in those
those news articles about Daubenmire and Zachary.

And, yes, this is all about Freshwater, isn't it.

Yes, it is about Mr. Freshwater, and his right to freedom of speech, and freedom of religion.
Having a CLOSED Bible on his desk is not infringing on anyone else's rights.  If ya don't want to see the Bible, don't look.

nahhhhh, No kudo's please.

Tears, please.

I fear I may have a Democrat on my hands.

You know how I know this?  Because what he did today, he did because he thought it was the right thing to do....

NOT because it was REALLY the right thing to do, but because it "made him feel good".

"feel good" action is a tell tale sign of a Democrat.

EGADS......

Forest, I know how you feel.

My daughter wore a decorated shirt and took TWO Bibles to school today.

She considers herself an "agnostic", but feels that Mr. Freshwater should be allowed to have his Bible on his desk.

I had to think to myself that I am raising a mini CM myself.

I remember when I was in Elementary school, there was an organization that used to come to the school and pass out The New Testament to all the kids.  Wonder whatever happened to that?

SeaBreeze, please stay with me here.  I'm not
doing such a good job of getting my view
          expressed here.

OK, a closed Bible on the desk is no infringement.
A Bible.  An icon from which Freshwater (and many
          other adults) draws strength.  OK.

If I, as a Christian teacher in the Middle School,
draw strength from the cross (as many people do),
then I can bring that to class and put it on my
          desk.......   yes ?

I won't talk about it; there will be _no_ preaching.

It's three-feet high with..... well, you know.

It's my freedom of speech; it's my freedom of
religion.  And we Christians don't demand special
treatment that isn't extended to others.....

The Bible is Mr. Freshwater's strength; my
3-foot cross is my strength.  (And yes, I do
have one.  Belonged to my ancestor, Rev.
          Sherman.)

So goes the one, so goes they all.

This would be OK with you?  Yes?  Or are
you going to persecute me for my beliefs.

Seabreeze, ma'am...Do you have that belief with all religious icons that could be placed on a desk?

Just keep in mind...your tax dollars are being used...you have no idea behind the icons...you have no choice...your child has no choice.

Religious icons can be as simple as a Bible or as extreme as a white man standing over a black man kneeling.  They can consist of something as simple as a voodoo doll or as extreme as a Jew being crucified.  The icon can be as innocent as a statue of a man to as extreme as an overweight woman standing in the welfare line with a bushel of dirty kids behind her.

There is a reason that an employer accepting public funds cannot protray any particular religion.  Mr. Freshwater is paid from public funds.  He can tape the Bible to his forehead if he wants...he just can't do it on company time...not when he is suppose to be working...not when he is receiving my tax dollars.

When you open the door, it must be opened all the way!  Not just what suits this predominately white, Christian community.
Until you make peace with who you are, you'll never be content with what you have.  --Doris Mortman

I would never want to be that, ever.  But,
maybe, you see my point, that's all.

Your view is valid.  I too have no problem
           with a Bible on a teacher's desk.

But to allow it opens up the floodgates for
any and all other religious icons. This
is what I have serious problems with.

Schools are for the kids, not the adults.
