Last night, I attended the school board meeting and asked Mr. Thompson to verify the claim he made during his campaign regarding a $3 million dollar deficit rather than a $6.5 million rainy day fund as stated by previous school board president, Ian Watson. I also asked him to clarify his involvement with the Community Council on Free Expresssion. John Freshwater also addressed the School Board regarding the recent "black bag" event. Sam Stickle, Accountability in the Media, filmed this for his site.

I wonder how this will work out for them.  Good stewards must be accountable, old or new, no one has ever explained the $$$$ spent for an employee to collect while sitting back doing nothing.

This is  :read:vital to the welfare of our kids..........

Yes, I concur.  This levy, even though it is a renewal, is going to be a hard sell to the community.  It does concern me.  Our School District in all facets from individual teachers, to department heads to district personnel, to the school board need to show more transparency in what is being done.  The more transparent, the better the public will feel about supporting them.

Thanks sloppy!  And no he wasn't smiling.  I'm only asking him to back up his statements that:

#1 There is a deficit?

#2 He can fix it better than those before him........so what's his plan?

There is no reason to ask for money.  The three board members and the two old members can pay for it out of their own pockets.  The have wasted nearly half of money on the Freshwater mess.

Why not the two new ones? They are approving this request.

The old board is the ones that fired, without documented evidence.

I don't live in this district and I haven't followed this real closely.  So, maybe this is a stupid question.  If there is an emergency fund, then why ask for an emergency levy?  What constitutes an emergency?  What is the purpose of an emergency fund?  Is there ever an emergency enough of an emergency to use the emergency fund?  This is confusing (pun intended).

This a emergency levy because, when candidates were try to get reelected to the board, there was all kind of money.

Now, after the election, the money vanished.  Surprise! Surprise! Surprise!

Vote No on all levies.

There is a special executive session of the school board tonight at 5:30. I have submitted the following letter to the editor to the MTV News in lieu of this meeting:

Sometimes life is stranger than fiction...so seems the Freshwater saga. The flavor of this never ending story has taken on the bizarre nature of an X-files episode with the discovery of a mysterious black bag after 1 1/2 yrs containing evidence that supposedly will exhonerate the teacher. The evidence drop location was provided to a minister by "deep throat". Fearing danger the minister takes an armed person rather than the police to the location. The evidence discovered was tampered with for 2 days before reported to the authorities. Now "deep throat" will come forward but Freshwater's atty is arguing that they must remain anonymous and not be subject to public testimony.

Are we to believe that the mystery informant should be afforded anonymity when it was Mr. Hamilton that ademately argued against the anonymity of the children involved in this case? Shouldn't the adults be held to the same rules/standard given to the children?

The role of our school board members must be to ignore the manipulative tactics of a legal process and keep our district focused on the completion of the truth finding in this case. Their actions must be transparent. There can be no "secret deals". The taxpayer must know the truth in this case, after all, the public will be footing the bill and will be the ones who decide whether to fund the schools with our votes in the future.

If this case is secretly settled behind closed doors it will be another example of adult manipulation of fairness and justice. Ask yourself, what are the children learning????
