Speaking of the school systems, there's a 'rumor' that there's going to be a rally on the square later today in favor of a teacher.  Seems he had a bible on his desk, one student saw it and went home and complained, and the school is giving him grief about it.

Hope it happens.  NO ONE should be able to tell a teacher NOT to have a Bible in his office.   :angryfire:

If two people hear the same rumor does that make it true?

Ch4 TV has this covered.   The partial blurb that I caught
said that there will be more on the 11:00 PM news.

There is a group of Radical Muslims out of Chicago that have been posting on teenage MySpace accounts telling kids to look for this type of behavior and report it.  Rumor has it one of their goals is to flush out the radical Christians and get them out of the way so that they have easier access to the schools.  Appears there are many instances where Muslims have been invited to speak at public schools in a show of "goodfaith" towards openness and tolerance of other religions.  They (the radical muslims) are claiming that kids interpret these presentations as schools supporting Islam and not supporting Christianity....growing their base so to speak.

I don't like this but doubt anyone can do anything to stop it...in this day and age nothing surprises me anymore

I just read the story on the nbc website. If he is not teaching it then why is it a problem?

This teacher has a history of pushing controversy.  That's probably why.

As long as he's not pushing Christianity (or any other religion) and just putting controversy "out there" to get the kids thinking and discussing, I think that's a GOOD thing.  Anything that gets the kids' brains working and opens up discussions of events that are currently affecting us as a nation is a lot better than just having kids memorize answers that will appear on a state-mandated test at a later date.

Isn't stopping someone from talking about religion an absolute violation of our constitution?  Is the constitution ignored by the school Nazi's?

Kudo's to Mr. Freshwater!  (I figure it's ok to put his name in here, since it's on the nbc site)

It's not like he's asking the kids to read it, and he did remove the 10 commandments from display as requested.  Maybe the schools are so busy putting people on paid sabbatical that they aren't thinking?

Sure, it's not like the taxpayers are pissed off enough yet, lets piss em off some more!

I don't see the difference between just displaying a bible on desk (maybe display is too strong a word, setting or having is more like it) and things like cross club or whatever it is called now and at other schools that show a christian faith.... it is not like he is teaching it..... and it is not like just having a bible shows a religious preference per se.... many colleges and perhaps a few high schools teach the bible as a literary tool not a religious thing and there is nothing wrong with that..... I am not a religious person really, but I do read the bible and find it quite interesting but not as a Christian teaching, kwim?  things get so blown out of proportion anymore.....

When I was in high school there was an organization called "Fellowship of Christian Athletes" or something like that.  Is that organization still allowed in the school?
